1. Who's the target user of Sharptype?
Sharptype is a filter plug-in for Photoshop, it mainly concerns on generating sharp font for small font size in Photoshop. You may find it useful if you are: UI designer, web designer or anyone who need to draw text in small font size. Sharptype can provide far more sharper type than the built-in Photoshop engine, which will improve your compositions' readability dramatically.
2. What's the pros, compared to Photoshop's built-in engine?
Sharptype uses a distinct method to render font, it does not use functional routines provided by operating system, however, it optimizes vector information to sharpen the vertical and horizontal lines. Sharptype searches additional directories for font, hence you do not need to install then into operating system, the font preview function resembles that in Microsoft Word, which make the font browsing and picking easier... 3. What is the advantage of built-in character map?
The traditional way requires open the system character map and do paste/insert operation. now you can just open the built-in char-map and do the insertion directly, hence makes the windings font easier to use.
4. How to install?
First download and install the program, set the correct plug-ins path, you can find the plug-ins path of your Photoshop or any compatible host (e.g. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Plug-Ins) and copy it. You must choose the correct directory, or you cannot get Sharptype recognized by Photoshop and any compatible host.
5. How to launch the program?
Launch Photoshop and open an image file, you'll find the Sharptype in Filter menu. Currently only has support for RGB and Grey scale, so you have to convert to RGB or Grey scale for other color space. |
